This particular Wednesday, there was only one hostess seating the long line of waiting customers. We waited 15 minutes in the cashier line and then got on another line where we waited 25 minutes for a seat. Walking in the front door, there were separate long lines to two cashiers. However, as we arrived in the parking lot we were shocked at the number of cars already there. We thought we were being smart about arriving at the Smorgasbord at 4pm, the time that they switch from lunch to dinner. And while there are a few things that Shady Maple excels at (which I'll also talk about), it's generally an overall negative experience just for its size and the number of crowds it attracts. The attraction to Shady Maple is that it's one of the largest buffets in America. minutes away which I'll touch upon later in this review. This is my second time coming to Shady Maple and I have come to learn that it's no longer a place I look forward to eating at. I would say that Shady Maple is worth experiencing at least once. I wouldn’t mind going back, but wouldn’t go out of my way again to do so. Hershey farms and millers smorgasbords I feel are better. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back. If you don’t want to do that, then stop seating from 10-11 so you can clear out and move onto the next meal! It was an ok meal, but if you’re going to charge lunch prices it needs to be ready right then. They also had burgers and hot dogs, brisket, and a bunch of different sides. Wanted to try the shrimp but got too full. If I ever went back I’d just fill up on pulled pork and fries.

Grilled steak was full of gristle (I guess what should you expect for the price of the buffet), but flavored well. The pulled pork and fries were delicious. When I did finally get lunch I thought it was just average. When I went back up the grill stuff still wasn’t ready, but food in the steam tables were. They were just setting up the lunch stuff. I grabbed some scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns while we waited. I get it so people don’t game the system, but we had to sit and wait to eat lunch food.
